Ssekandi Appointed to World Bank Position



The Executive Directors of the World Bank have appointed Francis M. Ssekandi as a member of the World Bank Administrative Tribunal for a five-year term effective July 1, 2007 and expiring June 30, 2012.

Mr. Ssekandi, a River Vale resident has a long and distinguished career representing the United Nations in many capacities and has traveled the World using his expertise in arbitration, mediation, civil conflict resolution, and peace keeping.

He was a Justice of the Supreme Court in his native Uganda before joining the United Nation in 1981. He served as deputy Director in the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs, principal legal advisor to the U.N. Development Programme and Director of the office of the special representative of the UN Secretary General in Liberia. He was later to become General Counsel of the African Development Bank before retiring from active service.

Mr. Ssekandi, now an International Legal Consultant, has been associated with the law firm of L. Scott Berkoben, PA in Westwood in an "of counsel" position for the past seven years.
