L. Scott Berkoben, Esq., President of the firm, has been a member of the New Jersey Bar since 1984, with a Bachelor of Science and a Masters Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University. Having started his practice in 1986, Berkoben became incorporated in 1991 and has been practicing law since 1984. He was admitted to practice in the following venues: Supreme Court of New Jersey; New Jersey Superior Court; United States Court of Appeals, Third Circuit; U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. Mr. Berkoben is a full member of the New Jersey Bar Association and the Bergen County Bar Association.

Mr. Berkoben has served in the past as an elected councilman in Westwood for seven years and has represented an assortment of New Jersey towns as Municipal Prosecutor, Municipal Public Defender, Rent Leveling Board Attorney and Parking Authority Attorney. He was also chairman of the Westwood Planning Board and a member of the Westwood Zoning Board of Adjustment. He lectures at the Institute for Continuing Legal Education, a partnership of the New Jersey Supreme Court and the New Jersey Bar Association. Mr. Berkoben is also a lecturer of the National Business Institute and is a regular speaker on legal and political matters to various organizations.

 

Francis M. Ssekandi, Esq. Of Counsel
Francis M. Ssekandi, Esq. –Of Counsel holds a Masters Degree from Columbia University, as well as a Degree in law from London University. He was admitted to practice in New York and the United States Court of Appeals. With over 38 years of experience as an attorney and legal consultant, Ssekandi has worked in various common law and civil law jurisdiction in the areas of project finance, international law, and legal and judicial reform. He has significant expertise in arbitration, mediation and peacekeeping and has helped many cases settle before going to litigation. Ssekandi has served as deputy director of the Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations, as principal legal advisor to the U.N. Development Program, as director of the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General in Liberia, and as a general counsel of the African Development Bank. He recently served the U.N. on special missions to East Timor, China and Iraq.

Ssekandi lectures and teaches at Columbia University.
